Lisa was fortunate to have grown up summering on the beaches of Connecticut and Maine where she enjoyed searching the “wrack line” for treasures washed up by the tides.

In fact, Lisa has been collecting shells since she was a child.  As her collection grew, she learned the scientific names of each shell and kept a record of where and when they were found.  It was this love of sea shells that manifested into the passion of making Sailors’ Valentines.  She also fell in love with Nantucket Baskets after a trip to the island.

It wasn’t until 2009 that Lisa began making Sailors’ Valentines and weaving Nantucket Baskets.  Then in an inspirational moment, aided by her friend and teacher, Lucille LaRochelle, Lisa combined the two art forms by weaving a basket and placing a Sailors’ Valentine in the bottom that is covered by glass, coining the name, “Lightship Valentine”.

Having retired from the practice of law, Lisa now spends her hours divided between making Sailors’ Valentines, Lightship Valentines and other Nantucket Baskets.
